Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 4 –5 thick slices of brioche or challah bread cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter for cooking
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar maple syrup, cinnamon sugar, or whipped cream
Instructions
- Prepare the custard:
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Coat the bread:
- Add the bread cubes into the mixture and gently toss to coat. Let them soak for about 2–3 minutes so they absorb the custard but don’t become soggy.
- Heat the pan:
- Melt the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Make sure the surface is fully coated and sizzling before adding the bread.
- Cook the bites:
- Place the soaked bread cubes in a single layer in the pan. Cook for about 1–2 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown and slightly crisp.
- Serve:
- Transfer the French Toast Bites to a plate. Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle with maple syrup, or roll in cinnamon sugar for an extra treat.
