The iconic Big Mac Sauce is a key draw for the Big Mac, and you might be surprised to learn how simple it is to whip up at home! Chances are, you already have most of the ingredients in your kitchen.

This homemade Big Mac sauce is a luscious recreation of McDonald’s famous condiment, crafted from easily accessible ingredients and boasting a flavor that mirrors the original.

It’s widely acknowledged that the standout feature of McDonald’s Big Mac is its irresistibly smooth and rich sauce. It’s so delicious that I used to request extra on the side every time I visited!

Fortunately, my tried-and-true copycat recipe is straightforward and nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.

What is Big Mac sauce?
Also known as the ‘Secret Sauce,’ McDonald’s Big Mac sauce consists of mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, and Thousand Island dressing. This sauce is the signature sweet and tangy element in the iconic Big Mac Burgers.
It’s actually one of the easiest sauces to make at home! Here are some reasons why I LOVE this recipe:
- It’s ready in seconds. Just add everything to a bowl, mix it together, and enjoy.
- It tastes like McDonald’s. Even die-hard fans can’t tell the difference between this homemade version and the classic from the Golden Arches!
- Easy to customize. If you love some spice or want the sauce a little sweeter, you can adjust it to suit your taste buds.
- Better ingredients. Let’s face it: McDonald’s isn’t known for using the best ingredients in its food, and the sauce is no exception. In our homemade version, we use just FIVE ingredients.

How to Utilize Big Mac Sauce
Big Mac sauce isn’t just for burgers! Here’s how to creatively use McDonald’s special sauce:
- In burgers: Naturally, it’s great on burgers. Try it on air fryer hamburgers, wagyu burgers (a top pick!), or even veggie burgers.
- As a dipping sauce: We love it as a dipping sauce for air fryer French fries or air fryer sweet potato fries. It also pairs well with popcorn chicken, onion rings, chicken nuggets, and crispy chicken tenders.
- Salad dressing: For a twist on salads, prepare a Big Mac Salad and dilute the sauce with 1-2 tablespoons of water or milk. Mix it into the salad and drizzle on top.
- Sandwich spread: With its mayonnaise base, swap out regular mayo in your sandwiches for a sweet and tangy flavor. It’s excellent in a sandwich with grilled chicken or roast beef, and can temper the heat of a spicy chicken sandwich.

Storage Tips:
- To store: Keep leftover sauce in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- To freeze: For longer storage, freeze the sauce in a shallow container or glass jar for up to two months.
